This fitted indigo taffeta and black velvet dress has a sweetheart neckline with optional halter top straps, and is ankle length. The velvet dress has more than a passing similarity to another of Murray Arbeid's designs - the 1987 red and black velvet flamenco ball gown made famous by Princess Diana! The gown was later sold in 1997 at Christie's Auctions in Manhattan for $25,300.00, to benefit cancer and AIDS charities. Our own Murray Arbeid gown features a dramatic, refined, and absolutely fascinating origami-like pleated embellishment that runs from the upper left neckline, down to the left mid-hip, and stretches across in a triangular-shape, to the right mid-hip, ending in an open fan fold detail. Side zipper.
